Final Report Abstract

In this project a new type of composite material for press hardening was investigated, which promises environmental and energy benefits during press hardening due to the substituted AlSi coating by roll-bonded cover layers. For this purpose, the required thermos-mechanical material parameters (flow behavior/diffusion properties) for production were determined. Rollbonding solutions were successfully realized for the combination of an austenitic cover layer (X5CrNi18-10) and a boron-manganese core (22MnB5) despite the occurring challenges. In addition, the base materials and the resulting semi-finished product were characterized under application-oriented aspects in the temperature range of forming (600-900 °C). Here, the flow behavior (stress and forming limit changes) during forming is considered and rules for predicting the bond are developed. With numerical calculations and material data, a press hardening tool was developed and manufactured for the production of demonstration parts. Finally, the properties of the demonstrator components were analyzed as a function of the compound composition and the usability of the new semi-finished product was confirmed with regards to hardenability and dimensional accuracy.
