Project A04 will investigate how expectations develop and are revised in the course of different treatment experiences, and how this process is modulated by negative mood, by (i) examining symptom-specific differences in treatment experience and generalization across different pain modalities and (ii) assessing how a negative mood state affects the generation and effect of treatment expectations within and across pain modalities. Understanding how treatment expectations dynamically shape the experience of pain holds promise for improved transdiagnostic treatment approaches in conditions involving the gut-brain axis and chronic pain.
