In project A04 (Huth) epitaxial thin films of EuPd2Si2 and EuPd3 in defined strain states will be fabricated by molecular beam epitaxy. Elastic anomalies in the strained films associated with the Eu valence transition will be investigated by magneto-transport measurements and surface acoustic wave attenuation experiments. This will serve as a crucial complement to other studies on EuT2X2 and Fe- and Co-based AT2X2 compounds that focus on bulk materials.
