Elastic tuning of competing orders in correlated superconductors (B03)

We propose to investigate experimentally the interplay between competing electronic phases in materials deriving from BaNi2As2 and CrAs. To do so, we will selectively tune the respective electronic orders of these compounds by controllably breaking the symmetries with uniaxial stress, and studying the induced changes in structure and collective excitations close to phase boundaries. This will be achieved using in particular recently-developed apparatus for diffraction and spectroscopy investigations under large uniaxial stress, in combination with advanced methods in crystal growth, and thermodynamic and transport measurements.
