Project Details
Restoring neural resources perturbed by sleep deprivation (C04)
Subject Area
Human Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 425899996
In this project we aim to establish and characterise sleep deprivation as a model to test and simulate the effects of declining cognitive functions as a result of reduced availability of neural resources in humans. Cognitive control may adaptively mobilise resources according to needs and availability. To probe mechanisms maintaining cognitive functions in spite perturbed resource availability cognitive control is investigated with model-based fMRI and EEG using a task disentangling contributions of a neural network that facilitates behavioural adaptations. Structural predictors of resource mobilisation will be explored using microstructural MRI.
