BN-containing materials show great promise in applications from materials science to catalysis due to the potential to access new chemistry and properties compared to their organic isosteres. However, their application is limited by methods for their synthesis butthe modular self-assembly of N-aryl iminoboronates from three building blocks makes them an appealing platform for the development of new BN-containing materials with tailored properties and increased complexity. This project will investigate the reductive coupling of N-aryl iminoboronates and the unusual dynamic covalent chemistry of the B-N bonds in the resulting amidoboronates. With a knowledge of factors influencing the diastereo- and enantioselectivity of the reductive coupling and the dynamic behaviour of the B-N bonds, the application of the amidoboronates in asymmetric catalysis, small molecule activation and self-assembly will be explored.
