Confocal Microscope with Patch Clamp Set-Up

Subject Area Medicine
Term Funded in 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 450471400

We are applying for an upright confocal microscope for combination with electrophysiology equipment. The planned investment is intended to create the essential structural prerequisite for the newly-appointed director of the Institute of Neurophysiology at the MHH to be able to carry out the applicant's central research projects in the Collaborative Research Centres TRR and SFB as well as in existing and planned collaborations at the MHH in the fields of endo-lysosomal cation channels, infection research, cardiovascular physiology and neurophysiology. The investment is therefore not only of essential importance for the work at the Institute of Neurophysiology but also for the development of new cooperation networks and research alliances at the MHH and beyond. The requested confocal microscope will be made available to the MHH research community through its virtual integration into the Research Core Unit for Laser Microscopy. This will substantially contribute to the visibility of the MHH as a nationally and internationally recognized imaging location. With the requested upright confocal microscope we will 1.) perform experiments on fixed cells, 2.) study endo-lysosomal trafficking in permanent cell lines and primary cells, 3.) perform Ca2+ imaging and 4.) FRET experiments on vital sinus node preparations or heart sections combined with patch clamp, 5.) investigate interactions of immune cells with different interaction partners using high resolution microscopy in vitro and in vivo in the anesthetized animal.
