High Resolution Chromatography Coupled Massspectrometer for Biomarker Discovery

Subject Area Basic Research in Biology and Medicine
Term Funded in 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 453504869

The increasing interest of clinical research groups in proteomic investigations at the Core facility for protein Analysis of the LMU (Zentrallabor für Proteinanalytik, ZfP) led to the establishment of ZfP for clinical proteomics (ClinZfP). The high demand for measurements requested from clinical research groups can no longer be met with the available instruments. For this reason, two systems for the detection (EXPLORE) and validation (CONFIRM) of clinical biomarkers are requested in this and the related application. This increasing interest in clinical proteomics is also illustrated by the ZfP's membership in the recently established network of proteome laboratories in Munich (CLINSPECT-M), which is intended to meet the medical need for mass spectrometry in neurological diseases. CLINSPECT-M is one of four clusters funded by the Federal Ministry of Knowledge and Research (BMBF) in Germany to establish mass spectrometric methods in routine clinical applications (https://www.gesundheitsforschung-bmbf.de/de/clinspect- m-clinical-mass-spectrometry-center-munchen-10979.php). The increased measuring capacity that would become available by the acquisition of two mass spectrometers applied for, would allow the ClinZFP at the BMC to use the pipelines set up in CLINSPECT-M for other clinical questions and thus significantly improve proteomic research for clinical diagnostics and therapy
