With initial funding support from DFG, the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) would like to establish a publication fund from 2021 onwards. The fund will accept article processing charges for peer-reviewed open access publications following the "gold open access" model. At the same time, the emerging university library will establish a reliable framework to support MHB scientists on their way to Open Science and will take an active role in the process of publication and distribution of scientific results. As a non-metropolis university, MHB has established a network in Brandenburg with two campuses, three university hospitals, cooperating hospitals and practitioners. In this context, it is hoped, the support of open access will mean that research data collected locally, for example on local health care, will produce research results that are also accessible locally. This should contribute to one of the goals of the open access movement, to provide society with an easy and comprehensive access to scientific information.
