Project Details
Microbial key processes and key species during drought and re-wetting of river sediments (A01)
Subject Area
Microbial Ecology and Applied Microbiology
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 426547801
Reduced flow velocity as a stressor has a major impact on the microbial community in its composi-tion and in its gene expression as a stress response. In Phase II, project A01 focusses on (i) an ex-treme reduction of flow velocity leading to desiccation and (ii) the subsequent recovery phase of the ecosystem with a focus on key species. We will analyse genomic, transcriptomic and epigenetic changes of microbes and viruses in mesocosms and in rivers that regularly, rarely or never dry out.
