The roles of bacteria and fungi for CPOM degradation during stressor increase and release: A metatranscriptomic approach (A04)

Subject Area Microbial Ecology and Applied Microbiology
Term from 2021 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 426547801

A04 aims at elucidating the role of different fungal and bacterial groups and their particular role in enzymatic decomposition of CPOM, with and without stressors. It will be tested if functions are more resistant and/or resilient than community composition, and whether a succession of species with specific functions is necessary to restore the normal trajectory of CPOM degradation after stressor release. Bacterial and fungal community composition will be determined by stable isotope probing, amplicon and metatranscriptome sequencing. The effects of stressor increase and de-crease for both fungi and bacteria will be evaluated in the AquaFlow and ExStream experiments.
