Since 1964 the Grimme-Preis honors media excellence in German television and is regarded as the most important TV award in Germany. The award, originally founded by the Deutscher Volkshochschulverband (DVV) in 1961, soon extended beyond its original focus on the role of TV in adult education.Until the present day the Grimme-Preis contributes to a comprehensive quality monitoring in German television. The aim is to archive the „Sammlung Grimme-Preis“ and the estate of Prof. Dr. Bert Donnepp, the initiator of the Grimme-Preis. The „Sammlung Grimme-Preis“ contains the minutes/proceedings and explanatory statements of the nomination commissions and juries, documentary reports and programmes, an comprehensive collection of press cuttings, magazines and informative literatures of every single television production. Additionally al large portfolio of films, audios and photos, that document the award ceremonies as well as the selection processes and decision makings preceeding the awards from the beginnings in the 1960s to nowadays is part of the “Sammlung Grimme-Preis”.
