Project Details
The interplay of microbiota with mucus: (B05)
Subject Area
Medical Microbiology and Mycology, Hygiene, Molecular Infection Biology
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 431232613
We will investigate the bidirectional interplay of microbiota with hydrogel properties and mucosal integrity. We do so in vivo under extrinsic (antibiotic) and intrinsic (gene-deficiency) perturbation, assessing microbiota and mucosa using both high- and low-throughput techniques as well as systems biology modeling. Based on these findings and on other metegenomic data from projects within and outside the consortium, including clinical cohorts, we aim to establish the mucolytic capacity of the microbiota as a predictor for the mucosal physiology/homeostasis in the gastrointestinal tract.
