Hot Exciplex Polymers – new solution processable TADF polymers with exceptional emission characteristics

Subject Area Preparatory and Physical Chemistry of Polymers
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 456129967

In this project, we will explore a new type of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) working through a combined mechanism based on hot excitons and exciplexes – which we term hot exciplexes. To achieve this, we prepare monomers composed of electron donors and acceptors that are linked via an anthracene bridge and we polymerize these monomers to form soluble polymers. The polymer materials allow us to study different effects to influence the hot-exciplex mechanism, by allocating the donor and acceptor on the backbone or periphery, respectively. We will explore the opto-electronic performance of these novel TADF polymers as laser gain materials as well as in simple OLED devices.
