Atmosphere-Ocean Background Modelling for Terrestrial Gravimetry (C06)

Subject Area Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, Cartography
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 434617780

Project Description

We will develop new background models of atmosphere and ocean mass variability with focus on terrestrial applications that are sufficiently accurate to isolate gravity signatures caused by, e.g., seasonal to inter-annual terrestrial water storage variations, crustal uplift due to glacial isostatic adjustment processes, coastal sea-level rise, or anthropogenic effects induced by extensive irrigation for agricultural purposes. The new models will be immediately contrasted against terrestrial gravity data from various places with varying terrain complexity to allow for a rapid iterative improvement of the modelled dataset.
