Dynamic flow separation on large, reactive rotor blades of wind energy megastructures (A02)

Subject Area Fluid Mechanics
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 434502799

The longer and more slender rotor blades of future OWTs will be much more susceptible to vibrations. Due to the induced transient change of the angle of attack, the risk of dynamic flow separation increases: aero-elastic interactions between the flow and rotor blades result in higher mechanical loads. In the subproject A02, the influence of profile parameters on the unsteady flow field shall be modelled based on experimental data and three-dimensional flow simulations (CFD). Subsequently, the aero-elastic interactions and the resulting structural loads are to be reduced by means of variations on profile parameters.
