The aim of the previous project "openCost" is the creation of a technical infrastructure to freely exchange publication costs via standardised interfaces and formats. This should enable cost transparency at institutional, national and international level. The follow-up project "openCost 2" builds directly on the developed metadata schema and extends the applications of the schema. An internal format is being developed for the storage of cost data in local systems, which extends the exchange format to include local data. The project also deals with data exchange between library systems and repositories or current research information systems. While the first project phase focussed on an exchange format for article processing charges, other publication types such as books, edited volumes and research data are now being considered and the exchange format is being expanded and implemented in the OpenAPC infrastructure in a future-proof manner. A validator for the openCost format is being created to facilitate the general use of the format. A registry is required for the allocation of articles to all publishing agreements (consortium agreements, community models, memberships, Diamond Open Access). This will be implemented in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) as part of the project. In addition, the EZB will develop a dashboard of Open Access information in order to obtain quick institution-specific overviews. This will be realised by merging existing systems with the information from the EZB.
