We, as the Department of General Zoology and Neurobiology, apply for a multi-photon microscope to establish new scientific projects related to cellular and functional neurobiology. The visualization of molecular processes in living tissue and behaving animals is one of the most promising methods to understand the living brain. Current and future projects are the investigation of the importance of neuronal network modulation in relation to diseases such as epilepsy, ataxia and anxiety. We will apply optogenetic tools and genetically encoded sensors, which have been developed in our Department, to visualize and control the G protein receptor signals in vitro and in vivo. The multi photon microscope will be a multi user facility, which will be available for the other users within the faculty and university.
