Subject Area
Communication Technology and Networks, High-Frequency Technology and Photonic Systems, Signal Processing and Machine Learning for Information Technology
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 299150580
This project analyses numerically how the periprosthetic bone quality and density around an implant can be measured by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and electrical impedance tomography to detect the loosening of hip stems in the context of total hip arthroplasties and to assess the regrowth of mandibular bone in the context of maxillofacial reconstruction. The findings shall ultimately enable the realisation of autonomous closed-loop electrically active implants. The electromagnetic simulation of soft tissue-bone-implant systems poses several challenges, which will be addressed with an ad hoc low-frequency stable full wave electromagnetic solver.
