Final Report Abstract

The project titled "Investigating the Performance of Digital Business Model Innovation in Established Firms", funded as part of the Walter Benjamin Programme, includes three studies. The first study focuses on the transition from upfront software licensing to subscription-based models. The study uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to analyze firms' reports and confirms a positive relationship between strategic subscription intensity and firm performance. The findings contribute by providing quantitative evidence for the impact of digital business models on firm performance and by validating the method of analyzing firms' reports with NLP. The second study examines the mechanisms for governing the evolution of AI-based bots, using the example of Cluebot NG on Wikipedia. It identifies five governance mechanisms (SAFER): Scoping, Adapting, Flagging, Escalating, and Requesting, which allow humans to influence the bot's behavior. The research provides design principles for incorporating human influence and contributes to understanding algorithmic governance. The third study explores the impact of Metaverse on entrepreneurship and proposes a conceptual framework for understanding Metaverse-enabled entrepreneurship with its enablers and pathways. The study contributes to our understanding of how Metaverse influences entrepreneurship and suggests future research directions in this field.
