The proposed study is a prospective randomized controlled and multicentric trial comparing microcatheter-assisted trabeculotomy (MCAT) with conventional probe trabeculotomy in childhood glaucoma treatment comprising a higher sample size than previous studies. Up-to-date, there are only two such trials, one from Egypt and one from India. The novel aspect of the proposed trial is that this is the first prospective European study including a reasonably high number of patients with a broader age range from birth up to twelve years. It is an important contribution to prevention of blindness by finding the best surgical methods to treat childhood glaucoma.
