Subproject A08 aims at a gentle implant removal without destruction of periprosthetic tissues during the revision of failed implants. For this purpose, an innovative method based on an inductive and transcutaneous implant surface heating will be established to avoid conventional and bone destroying chiselling. The underlying physical principles of this method and its conditions will be analysed by developing a numerical model to design and control the induction heating. The validation process will be accomplished by standardised implant removal experiments.
