Project identifier

This subproject aims for atraumatic removal and refixation of arthroplasties by softening the surrounding bone cement through transcutaneous inductive heating of metallic implants. To this end, an in silico model will be developed to design implant-specific Helmholtz inductor coil geometries and to determine optimal induction parameters for both Co-28Cr-6Mo and Ti-6Al-4V implants. The resulting effects on the mechanical properties of bone cement in the context of cement-in-cement revisions will be systematically investigated and heating strategies for combined sterilization and refixation of septically loosened implants will be evaluated.
