This project focuses on the development of a novel theoretical perspective on the role of the BICs in shaping global economic governance through the activities of their MNCs, and in doing so, it will develop an innovative and timely approach to Chinese investments. A first part (WP 1) will employ machine-learning text analysis of newspaper articles to create a new and highly original database (CIRUS). This publicly available database will contribute to society, facilitating research on Chinese firms and their impact on global economic governance by academics, think-tanks, journalists, etc. A second part (WP 2) will test and deepen the proposed theory of how the BICs (specifically China) may be altering global rules through their investors’ behaviour in terms of their alignment or lack thereof with best practice through 2-3 academic articles. This second part will also contribute to the applicant’s ongoing project of consolidating his existing works on the BICs and global economic governance through both formal and informal means as a second book (Habilitation).
