In subproject B03, optical detection systems for the early, local sensing of infection-associated biofilm dysbiosis are developed. Dysbiotic metabolites will be detected by an optical fiber with spectroscopic analysis, furthermore, pH-sensitive hydrogel coatings on implants are studied. In addition, bacteria-specific aptamers will be integrated into a microfluidic platform for read-out by the practitioner as chairside detection system. Prototypes of both detection systems will be validated and iteratively improved using the developed in vitro models as well as patient samples.
