Implant coating facilitating an intentional implant removal (B08)

Subject Area Biomaterials
Solid State and Surface Chemistry, Material Synthesis
Preparatory and Physical Chemistry of Polymers
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 426335750

Implant removal remains unavoidable in certain clinical cases, requiring strategies that minimize tissue damage during explantation. For this reason, innovative materials are being developed that change adhesion or mechanical strength in response to external stimuli. The focus is on magnetothermally switchable organosilicon dioxide nanoparticles combined with polymers. They are used either as surface coatings for soft tissue implants or as components of newly developed bone cements for hard tissue applications. The effect of magnetothermal stimulation on the implant-tissue interface is being studied in vitro using the cell sheet technology.
