Project Details
Becoming Human, Being Human: Human Differentiation and Conviviality – From the Present into Prehistory (F01 (ehem.C02))
Subject Area
Modern and Contemporary History
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 442261292
The project examines the history of science on human development at the intersection of the humanities and natural sciences, from the 18th century to the present. By making the CRC’s central category, “human,” its own object of inquiry, it aims at an “archaeology” of human differentiation (Foucault). The focus is on the distinctions and classifications of human beings (Hominini) based on fossil and material evidence. The project particularly concentrates on the temporality, spatiality, and relationality of such differentiations, analyzed through the four working units: taxonomy, conviviality, representation, and narrativity.
