This project is concerned with the formulation of a cultural sociological theory of human categorization. It aims to advance and augment the social theoretical framework of the CRC and to situate and demarcate its subject matter within social theory writ large: as one, hitherto theoretically overlooked, case of cultural differentiation alongside the well-known functional and stratificatory variants. The research focus of the second phase is the theoretical constellation analysis and the linking of different dimensions of the institutionalization of forms of human differentiation.
