Project Details
Composition and transport of aerosol particles in the UTLS and their interactions with cirrus clouds (A04)
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 428312742
We will use data from past and upcoming HALO missions and from IAGOS-CARIBIC to extend the available data set on UTLS aerosol composition. Additionally, we will conduct a dedicated aircraft campaign with a small research aircraft (Learjet) to study small scale mixing in the extratropical UTLS region. In a laboratory campaign at the renewed AIDA chamber of KIT, we will study chemical processing and ice nucleation ability of typical UTLS aerosol components, including aircraft emissions such as lubrication oil, under temperature conditions relevant for the UTLS.
