Project Details
Chemical characterisation of organic aerosol in the UTLS (A05)
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 428312742
The project aims to improve understanding of organic aerosols in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS) through fieldwork and laboratory studies. Key efforts include deploying the upgraded sampler for organic aerosol during a Learjet campaign with a focus on semi-volatile biogenic and anthropogenic organic compounds and biomass burning aerosols (BBOA). The project also supports HALO aircraft campaigns, investigating aerosols from pristine regions and aircraft contrails, focusing on synthetic oils, combustion byproducts, and their ice-nucleating potential. Innovative sampling methods and high-resolution mass spectrometry will enable comprehensive aerosol characterization and identification of formation processes.
