Project Details
Impact of cirrus clouds on tropopause structure (B07)
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 428312742
In this project we will investigate the interaction of ice clouds and dynamical phenomenons in the tropopause region, i.e. gravity waves, dynamic and convective instabilities, and turbulence. For this purpose, we use mathematical techniques for analysing the coupled equations of dynamics and ice cloud physics. Using reduction techniques, reduced order models will be derived, which serve as prototypes for parametrisations in coarse grid models. The investigations are complemented by high-resolution model simulations, and comparisons with measurements, as obtained in other projects of the CRC.
