The influence of cold exposure on brain metabolic homeostasis

A fully functional nervous system is essential for the survival of an animal. Thus, it needs to be protected even under adverse circumstances. We now want to study how the nervous system is protected from effects of strong temperature changes. We will study the influence of cold shock on blood-brain barrier permeability and brain metabolic homeostasis. Further, we will investigate if cold acclimation induces changes in blood-brain barrier function and brain metabolism that might contribute to adaptive cold resistance.
