Project Details
Amplified Femtosecond Laser System with High Repetition Rate
Subject Area
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term
from 2022 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 470431630
The requested laser system is essential for experiments on transient structural dynamics of molecules and of chemical reactions on ultrafast time scales. Three complementary research directions are planned within a research group that I propose to establish via a Heisenberg professorship that is applied for in parallel: (1) Laser-Induced Electron Recollision and Diffraction, (2) Laser-Driven Coulomb Explosion Imaging, and (3) Transient Absorption of Extreme Ultraviolet (XUV) Light. The specifications of the laser system (high-repetition rate amplified femtosecond laser with two optical parametrical amplifiers for frequency conversion) allow the generation of ultraviolet pump and strong-field / XUV probe pulses under conditions which enable coincidence measurements.
