Given far-reaching changes in the current world of work and employment, professions committed to occupational health should be prepared to extend their expertise by integrating new scientific knowledge on the associations of working conditions with health. A substantial part of this knowledge was – and continues to be – produced by social and behavioral science research in a field labelled ‘psychosocial occupational health’. This project aims at developing a comprehensive, scholarly synthesis of this new evidence with relevance to science, education, and practice in occupational health. With his extensive expertise and long-standing own research in this field, the applicant sets out to accomplish this work in terms of an internationally available textbook, where work as a determinant of health and disease, and health and disease as a determinant of work are analyzed in a transdisciplinary perspective.
