Scanning tunnelling and atomic force microscopy as well as electronic and optical spectroscopies will be used investigate molecular switches at surfaces. Specifically, we will investigate retinoic acid and related compounds, platform-based molecular motors, azobenzene related molecules. Infra-red light detection will be used to probe the electron transport mechanisms in molecular switches.
