Open Access Publication Funding / 2022-2024 / University of applied sciences Kaiserslautern

Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 491147799

The increasing demand of funders for open access to project data and project results is reflected in an increase in open access publications with the participation of scientists at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences. Even though the total volume of publications is comparatively low compared to universities and the university is still at the very beginning of the open access transformation process, this process is to be strategically set up and accompanied. The university management, together with the library and the Research & Project Coordination department, has already planned, initiated, and implemented the first steps in this direction. The available publication figures indicate an increasing need for funds for Open Access, which will increase annually simply due to the demands of the funding agencies. The proposed project is an element in the Open Science development process at Kaiserslautern University. The overarching goal of the project is to design a transparent transformation process towards openly accessible scientific articles, for the publication of which, however, costs are usually incurred. Work goals on this path are: - Provision of information and advice for the scientists of the university, accompanied by qualification offers - Introduction of a publication fund with clear regulations and processes for processing and subsequent quality control - Valid monitoring of publication figures and costs. Each of the three work objectives is assigned a work package for the implementation of planned measures. The measures are accompanied by the introduction of a repository for the university and, in the medium term, by the introduction of a research data management system.
