The University of Freiburg pursues a consistent open science policy. On the basis of its Open Access resolution of March 31, 2010, it appeals to its researchers to publish their research findings in Open Access. The Freiburg University Library is the central and sustainable service infrastructure for OA publishing. Since 2011 it has been in charge of the central OA publication fund for the entire university and the OA publication platform FreiDok plus as well as innovative infrastructures for OA publication in research-related areas (e.g. “Sonderforschungsbereiche”). The Library advises researches and students in topics of media law and copyright. Freiburg University Library is an active partner in Projekt DEAL and is negotiating transformative contracts for the Baden-Württemberg consortium. With the support of the DFG funding program “OA Publication Costs”, the University of Freiburg intends to increase the visibility of its research results and to further expand its active role in the transformation to OA publishing. The grants provided for the publication costs for eligible OA publications (gold and hybrid articles, OA monographs) represent an important component in the sustainable modeling and financial consolidation of an integrated information budget for a research-intensive university. Freiburg University will further develop and evaluate the necessary structures and processes for comprehensive monitoring of the volume of publications and the associated costs.
