Hereby, we apply for the 5th Workshop for Early Career Investigators in the Field of Health Services Research (NWA). The NWA will be initiated and conducted by the Department of Health Services Research at the University of Oldenburg in cooperation with other DFG-experienced scientists, review board members and former NWA organizers. Goals of the NWA are to achive competencies in the systematic development and elaboration of innovative, knowledge-generating as well as basic research-oriented project ideas and proposals, to increase the number of approved applications to the DFG, to promote interdisciplinary exchange and networking, and overall to strengthen health services research in Germany. The concept of the NWA is based on the successful previous academies. However, it differs from its predecessors in that a) mentoring is done exclusively by alumni of previous NWA, b) more intensive support and exchange with other participants is provided, and c) stronger and sustainable networking is made possible. Young scientists can apply for the NWA with a pre-proposal. From these, 20 participants will be selected. After a one-day workshop, the preparation and review of a sample proposal, the academy week and a finalization phase, the proposals are to be submitted to the DFG. The funded projects are to be presented at the German Congress for Health Services Research (DKVF). In addition, networking and sustainability will be achieved by alumni meetings.
