Dynamic structure tracking in multiphase flow using ultrafast X-ray tomography with image-based scan control

Subject Area Measurement Systems
Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 492989376

Based on the results, ultrafast X-ray tomography will be used for real-time tracking of individual bubbles in bubble swarms with high gas content. In this way, the project contributes to the understanding of the gas bubble behaviour in bubble swarms, in particular to the coalescence and break-up of bubbles. In detail, a further development and validation of the control strategies for the acquisition of time-resolved parameters for the description of break-up and coalescence events in dense bubble swarms, the experimental investigation of coalescence events in dense bubble swarms with special regard to contributions to modelling with the aid of the film drainage model for shape-variable mobile interfaces, the experimental investigation of bubble break-up events in dense bubble swarms with special focus on the daughter size number and size distribution as well as a classification of the results in the state of the art and extension of existing coalescence and decay kernels for flow simulation will be done. Benchmark data sets for the international validation of break-up and coalescence models are provided.
