Controlling the electronic properties of complex functional- and quantum materials is a highly topical research direction in the field of solid state physics. Both the static and dynamic electronic properties of complex oxides provide a promising basis to explore novel functionalities, e.g. for future information technology or sensing. On a fundamental level, fascinating phenomena open up at oxide interfaces, such as newly emerging and controllable magnetic or ferroelectric states.The equipment applied for is intended to enable the deposition of ultra-thin oxide films and hybrid oxide heterostructures with atomic-scale precision. The investigation of interacting phenomena will be carried out on these complex electronic systems. In order to produce such material systems with precise monolayer control, a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) system is required for targeted sample preparation. The PLD method will establish a new growth method for complex oxides in the applicant’s group and ideally complement the existing molecular beam epitaxy system (Oxide-MBE). An in-situ sample transfer option enables the generation of new types of complex oxide hybrids and their comprehensive structural and chemical characterization. In this way, the physics department and the newly started SFB1432 are thematically strengthened and novel opportunities for cooperation are created – at the University of Konstanz and (trans-) regionally.
