Project Details
Dark matter and gas in galaxies (F06)
Subject Area
Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 445052434
By systematically studying galactic halos with the weak gravitational lensing method, this project will extend the luminosity function of galaxies to low luminosities and hence small masses. In addition, the baryon distribution (based on the dust distribution) will be studied up to radii of several Mpc. The relation between stellar mass and that of the halo will be investigated to understand the role of dark matter in the halo dynamics. The extent and shape of the halos will be further quantified and used in MHD simulations in Research Area A.
