Project Details
Spin-lattice coupling on ultrafast time scales (A10)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 328545488
The project investigates ultrafast spin-lattice coupling, focusing on the transfer of energy and angular momentum between spins and phonons in magnetic materials. Using ultrafast electron and X-ray diffraction alongside magneto-optical techniques, it studies both high- and low-energy excitations. A central goal is to resolve the role of circularly polarized phonons in demagnetization and their transport across heterostructures. Key materials include 2D van der Waals magnets, magnetic oxides, transition metals, rare-earths and their alloys. The project explores spin manipulation via tailored THz strain and shear waves, targeting applications in ultrafast spintronics.
