Ultrafast control of Berry-curvature-driven transport via spin-torque excitation of chiral magnets (B10*)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 328545488

In this project, we will use optical techniques to study spin dynamics in Mn3Ir and Mn3Sn. By exciting the expected magnon modes, we will accelerate the seeded spin-orbit torque magnetization reversal of these noncollinear antiferromagnets to ultrafast timescales. To achieve this goal, we will employ on-chip spintronic emitters to inject THz-frequency current pulses. The resulting switching of chiral spin texture will be detected through time-resolved measurements of Berry-curvature-driven anomalous Hall effect using photo-conductive sampling. The development of these novel device geometries will be tested using the ferrimagnetic materials GdFe and DyCo5.
