Bone loss/osteoporosis is a crucial topic in orthopedics and trauma surgery today. Osteoporosis is the reason for many fractures and associated complications in the German health care system due to the bone's decreasing resistance to mechanical loads. In this context, particular areas of the skeleton exhibit high bone mass loss, while the scull is almost immune to bone loss. Understanding these mechanisms to prevent or treat osteoporosis is the goal of the project, which is settled at the interface between human medicine and engineering.
