Project Details
Controlling the Microstructure of Titanium Grade 5 by Adding Inoculant and Flux While Controlling the Cooling Rate in Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing (T07#)
Subject Area
Materials in Sintering Processes and Generative Manufacturing Processes
Term
since 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 119193472
The aim of the transfer project is to control the microstructure of titanium grade 5 (TiAl6V4) by the gas-based addition of inoculants and fluxes in combination with the control of the cooling rate during wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM). The transfer project is based on the findings of subproject B6 in CRC 871 on WAAM and the use of inoculants and fluxes. Together with the cooperation partners, the welding characteristics for titanium grade 5 will be developed and adapted to the inoculants and fluxes (EWM AG) and the complete process will be validated on demonstrator components (EMW-Euen GmbH).
