The new instrument is intended to reliably meet the increasing demand for single-crystal structure analyses of the participating working groups in the future and to enable a significant increase in quality and efficiency. Modern single crystal diffractometers with microfocus tubes in combination with a state-of-the-art hybrid pixel detector with ultra-fast evaluation electronics allow complete, high-quality structural analyses in a few hours. This detector technology also offers unprecedented data precision and resolution due to single photon detection in high quantum yields, extreme low noise and the large dynamic measurement range, thus enabling the participating research groups to address crystallographic and structural chemistry issues at the highest scientific level. The combination of microfocus tubes with Mo and Ag radiation is complementary to existing devices and allows to effectively minimize the absorption problem in heavy element compounds and to significantly increase the accessible scattering angle range. A cooling device allows temperature-dependent series of measurements to study structural phase transformations, charge density wave transitions, topochemical reactions and (reversible) dehydration.
