The project has three primary objectives: 1. To evaluate existing solutions to the problem of extrapolation and to develop an account of the problem that clarifies its relationship to more traditional forms of inference2. To explore how knowledge of causal mechanisms facilitates extrapolation, and to use causal mediation techniques to make this quantitatively precise3. To defend the use of dynamic causal models as providing a novel basis for thinking about extrapolation
