The Protestant theologian Johannes Lepsius (1858-1926) is one of the prominent German figures of humanitarianism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His writings on the Christian minority of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire impressively document the examination of moral-political questions and contemporary church developments in the horizon of homogenisation movements of population groups in multi-ethnic states. The aim of the project is the editing of the most important texts on the "Armenian Question". For this purpose, the form of a study edition with a detailed apparatus is chosen, which contains a text commentary, the history of the origin and impact of the texts as well as a bibliography and an index of persons and places. Thus, the corpus of the writings of a key evangelical figure is made accessible for further research in contemporary ecclesiastical history and humanitarianism.
