Risk-based strategies to decrease recurrence and mortality of early-stage lung cancer

This international collaborative project between two thoracic surgery centers in Heidelberg and New York aims to study the treatment of early stage lung cancer and to develop risk-based surgical strategies to improve the treatment of patients. To this end, we have divided the project into an epidemiologic and an experimental part. We will evaluate survival and treatment options in Europe and the US in the first part. In the second part, we will use a large cancer tissue database to explore individualized patient characteristics that can improve personalized treatment recommendations. To this end, we are cooperating with partners from pathology in Heidelberg and New York and specialists from the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg.
