Bakterien der Gattung Roseobacter vor der Küste Mauretaniens

Subject Area Oceanography

Final Report Year 2011

Final Report Abstract

This project was associated to a Meteor-Cruise and aimed at shedding more light on distribution characteristics of the bacterial taxon Roseobacter in the Mauritanian upwelling area (subtropical North Atlantic). Samples obtained at various stations during the cruise and collected from several incubation experiments were analyzed using CARD-FISH (Catalyzed Reporter Deposition-Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization), analytical flow cytometry (AFC), cytometry-derived community indicators and correlation analyses. Thereby, first estimates of Roseobacter cell abundances could be provided and suggest Roseobacter to be of minor relative importance in the investigation area during the respective time of the year. Despite this, the project could elucidate distribution patterns at different spatiotemporal scales (e.g. environmental gradients, diel variability), identify relationships of Roseobacter abundance with environmental parameters as well as responses to experimental changes of biotic and abiotic conditions.
