Tailoring magnetism of High Entropy Alloys by high energy ball milling

The proposal aims at producing homogeneous, micron-sized high entropy alloy (magHEA) particles by high energy ball milling (HEBM)and from these sintered bulk materials with a large magnetization and high Curie temperature. Furthermore, the study will provide a guideline for an effective, up-scalable processing route of soft and hard magnetic HEA materials with chemical and mechanical robustness. At all stages of processing we will correlate morphology, microstructure, chemical composition and homogeneity with magnetic properties which are obtained for single particles, powders and consolidated materials. State-of-the-art high resolution structural and chemical maps will be obtained by transmission and scanning electron microscopy and spectroscopy. Ultimately, we want to achieve an understanding how to optimize the magnetic properties (Curie temperature, magnetization and coercivity) by control of the process parameters We will focus on the following base compositions: a) CrFeCoNi and b) CrMnFeCo to which we add Alx, Gax or Inx with x = 0.5 and x=1
